What we are reading this week:
Lo que estamos leyendo esta semana:
This week we are excited to recommend The Deep by Rivers Solomon, a really interesting novella in which the water-breathing descendants of African slave women tossed overboard who have built their own underwater society—and must reclaim the memories of their past to shape their future. Yetu, the main character, the memory-keeper of her people, struggles with the burden of her role, and escapes to the surface world only to realize that she has much to learn about her own past in order to reclaim her people’s future. The book is inspired by the Hugo Award nominated song “The Deep” from Daveed Diggs’ rap group Clipping. You can read an excerpt of the book here!
