Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflower Series (1988 & 1889) originally titled Tournesols in French, are amongst his most famous paintings. Van Gogh created five large canvases with sunflowers in a vase with three different shades of yellow and nothing else demonstrating it was possible to create an image with numerous variations of the same color.

What we are reading this week
We are proud to recommend Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco. It follows the story of a girl who is scared of thunder and her grandmother who helps her overcome it by baking a Thunder cake. They must gather the ingredients before the storm hits. In a beautifully told and designed story, Polacco spins a tale any child would enjoy.
