Art For OWL
The Sleeping Gypsy is an 1897 oil painting by French Naïve artist Henri Rousseau. It was first exhibited at the 13th Salon des Indépendants, where Rosseau unsuccessfully attempted to sell the mayor of his hometown. Instead, the painting entered a collection of a Parisian charcoal merchant where it remained until 1924 when it was discovered by art critic Louis Vauxcelles.
