Writing activities to try at home this week:
Actividades de escritura para usar en casa esta semana:
Monday: Many authors like to have multiple points of view in their books, meaning that the story is written from another character’s eyes. This can lead to interesting scenarios where you see the main character from a completely different perspective! Practice this kind of writing by writing a story that includes you, but from someone else’s point of view. Or just experiment writing from another point of view in any kind of story!

Practica este tipo de escritura escribiendo una historia que te incluya a ti, pero desde el punto de vista de otra persona. ¡O simplemente experimenta escribiendo desde otro punto de vista en cualquier tipo de historia!
Tuesday: Write a story that begins with “Come one, come all! You don’t want to miss this!”

Wednesday: Write about the funniest prank you ever played on someone. How did they react? If you have not played a prank or you don’t want to reveal it, write about something else funny that you have done or seen.

Lo que estamos leyendo esta semana:
We are excited to recommend Across the Bay by Carlos Aponte this week! This brightly-colored picture book follows a Puerto Rican boy and his search for family. Carlitos lives in a happy home with his mother and abuela, but it isn’t his fault that he can’t help but notice that his family looks different from others. He decides to leave behind his life of flowers and familiarity to find his father in Old San Juan. Accompanied only by a cat and a picture of his papi, Carlitos navigates through the ancient city with some help from the residents. Along the way, he gets a glimpse of Old San Juan’s rich culture and beautiful buildings, and manages to find the true meaning of family. A recipient of the Pura Belpré Award for its skillful depiction of the Latino experience, Across the Bay is a colorful, heartwarming story that celebrates both family and the richness of Puerto Rican culture.
