Lo que estamos leyendo esta semana:
We are excited to recommend Running by Natalia Sylvester this week! Fifteen-year-old Cuban American Mariana Ruiz’s father runs for president and she starts to view him with fresh eyes. Throughout his political career he has always been successful and had his daughter’s approval, but a presidential campaign brings a whole new level of scrutiny to sheltered Mariana and the rest of her family, from a 60 Minutes–style tour of their house to tabloids doctoring photos and inventing scandals. As tensions begin to flare within the Ruiz family, Mari begins to learn the details of her father’s political positions, and she realizes that her father is not the man she thought he was. How can you find and use your voice with all eyes on you? Can you disagree even if it means going against your father publicly? What happens when your dad isn’t your hero anymore? Will Mari get a chance to confront her father? If she has the chance to confront him, will she have the courage to carry through? This novel is about what happens when you wake up and stand up, beginning to realize that your father isn’t the hero you always saw him as. In this authentic, humorous, and gorgeously written debut novel about privacy, waking up, and speaking up.
