Austin Bat Cave Summer Camps: Nature Journaling
June 20th–24th, 9am–12pm each day; In-person at the Bat Cave (1210 Rosewood Ave)
Austin Bat Cave is closely following the Austin Public Health data and safety guidelines for mitigating the spread of Covid-19 in the community. As we transition back into in-person summer camps, we are making the wearing of masks voluntary for students and instructors while Travis County is in the low community risk stage. Austin Bat Cave reserves the right to change this policy at any time should cases of Covid-19 rise in the greater Austin area or should Travis County move to a higher stage of Covid-19 risk-based guidelines.
In this workshop, campers will use writing and drawing to capture inspiration from the great outdoors and its many mysteries! Through nature walks and field trips, students will observe animals, plants, and other natural phenomena and create poems, stories, and illustrations to express the natural wonder they experience. Students will also learn about journaling and mindfulness and ways in which nature can help us better understand ourselves. *Note: This workshop will take place at various locations outdoors and may involve transportation provided by ABC teachers. Register today!

Art For OWL
Papel Picado is a handmade product of Mexican origin that is used to decorate festivities such as national holidays, Christmas, Day of the Dead, weddings, quinceañeras, and baptisms. It is crafted from tissue paper with figures cut out in an artisanal way and with themes often including birds, floral designs, and skeletons. In the United States, it is common to see it in restaurants and streets during the Cinco de Mayo festivities, a celebration that has revolutionized to become a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage.

What we are reading this week
We are proud to recommend Are You My Mother by P.D. Eastman. This classic children’s book follows a little bird whose mother leaves to find him food when his egg starts to rock. When he hatches she isn’t there and he sets off to find his mother. A comedic adventure ensues, as he encounters a kitten, hen, dog, and a Snort. With entertaining pictures and an easy-to-read story, it is great for young readers.

Estamos orgullosos de recomendar “Are You My Mother” (“¿Eres mí mamá?”) de P.D. Eastman.
