The OWL Pen Pal Program Returns!
We are bringing back the OWL Pen Pal Program for the Summer of 2021. While we continue to practice social distancing, seniors are particularly vulnerable to isolation and loneliness, thus impacting their immunity and mental health. Austin Bat Cave's OWL Pen Pal Program connects and matches young people with senior citizens in the greater Austin area through a digital pen pal program that fosters meaningful connections between generations and helps build empathy for participants.
This program is ideal for young writers (age 10-18) with strong reading and writing skills, who are able to work independently and are self-motivated (they will be responsible for corresponding with seniors in their community), and who are interested in learning from and engaging with their senior pen pal. This program will run from early May-the second week of September. If you are interested in being a pen pal, sign up today!

What we are reading this week
We are proud to recommend The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes written by DuBose Heyward and illustrated by Marjorie Flack. There are five easter bunnies that help the great grandfather easter bunny. The little cottontail, country bunny is told as a child that she is not fast enough like the jackrabbit and that she is only just a little cottontail by the white rabbits. When she grows up she has 21 children, and she teaches them all to do separate chores. When the day comes when one of the five easter bunnies grows too slow, she and her twenty one children go to see the great grandfather easter bunny. After much consideration, he chooses her to be the fifth easter bunny. On Easter, he gives her the hardest task of all and when she fails, he gifts her a pair of little golden shoes for her bravery. A beautifully told story with warm pictures, this book will bring happiness to its readers.
Lo que estamos leyendo esta semana
Estamos muy orgullosos a recomendar The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes escrito por DuBose Heyward e ilustrado por Marjorie Flack.
